Grades 6-9

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”” Nelson Mandela
South African President and Activist

Learning for Grades 6-9 at JAIS is characterized by its high standards of academic excellence within a school setting that recognizes and reflects the needs of our students to feel connected. We pride ourselves on meeting the unique needs of adolescents and are committed to providing an educational experience that responds to the emotional and social needs of these students. We are the bridge between being a child and becoming a young adult.

The curriculum framework uses a combination of the US Common Core Standards and American Education Reaches Out (AERO) standards to guide our assessment and instructional practices. AERO standards were designed through a project supported by the U.S. State Department’s Office of Overseas Schools (A/OPR/OS) and the Overseas Schools Advisory Council to assist schools in developing and implementing standards-based curricula. Because learning is a continuum, these standards identify particular academic and dispositional behaviors appropriate to grade level and grade level bands.

The Grade 6-9 classes include Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Science. Students are offered

Spanish for modern language option as well as a local language option of Hebrew or Arabic. In addition, students take Art, Music, and Physical Education. Computer Technology Education is integrated into core subjects. Elective opportunities of robotics and film are offered. Students participate in a Leadership course as well as a weekly Advisory program. Support is offered to students with special learning needs, including English Language Learners (ELL) to non-native English speakers and Learning Support to students with learning difficulties.
